Basic Emacs Editing
This document provides descriptions of selected editing commands for the emacs editor. More help is available in emacs with the command ^H.
The carat symbol (^) represents the control key.
file management
- ^X I - read/insert file
- ^X^W - write out to file (save as)
- ^X^S - save file
- ^X K - close file
- ^X^C - close file and editor
- ^G - cancel
editing
- ^D - delete character
- ^K - delete line
- ^X U - undo
navigation
- ^F - go forward one character
- ^B - go back one character
- ^E - go to end of line
- ^A - go to start of line
- ^V - go to next page
- alt-V - go to previous page
